An exceptional wife
This story was shared by Dr. Paul Chapell of Lancaster Baptist Church
On May 2, 1962, a dramatic advertisement appeared in the San Francisco
Examiner. "I don't want my husband to die in the gas chamber for a crime
he did not commit. I will therefore offer my services for 10 years as a cook,
maid, or housekeeper to any leading attorney who will defend him and bring
about his vindication."
One of San Francisco's biggest lawyers saw the advertisement, felt
pity, and contacted the woman. After much work, he took on the case and ended
up getting the innocent man released from all charges. Afterward, the attorney
refused the lady's offer of ten years of service, noting that he was satisfied
to have saved an innocent man from death.

conclusion of the post THOUGHT ON THE LOVE OF GOD
3.
God’s love was expressed- God’s love was not latent but expressed, He
demonstrated it to us in full terms. Many may give without loving but it is
difficult to love without giving. God demonstrated His love for us by giving us
his only begotten Son to die for our sins. John 3:16-17 “For God
so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent
not his Son into the world to condemn the world… KJV. The scripture tells
us that Open rebuke is better than secret
love. Prov. 27: 5 KJV. The above is to tell us that our love must be
expressive, we should express our love to our God.
4
God’s love is limited by His Word- The intention
and the will of God is that none should perish. We read in John 3: 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to
condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Also, in
1 Tim 2:3-4 For this is good and acceptable
in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come
unto the knowledge of the truth. KJV. God had no desire for anyone to go to
hell. Notwithstanding, He is bound by His Word. People who refused His word
must face the consequence. He will not allow His sympathy for them to make His
Word of none effect. He created the hell fire for the devil and fallen angels
but as many as refused the Lord Jesus Christ is hell bound. They voluntarily
chose hell because they fail to acknowledge the Only Saviour. Is this your
case? Think and turn for Jesus is waiting to save you.
5. God’s love should be reciprocated- God demands
that we love Him back. KJV Deut 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with
all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Mark 12:30 And
thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my
commandments. I will always remember the story of a boy who had a boat he
cherished so much. One day, the wind wrestled the boat with him and he finally
lost the boat, the wind took the boat to another village. Someone else found
the boat cleaned it and offered it for sale. The boy whose boat got lost went
everywhere looking for it. When he got to the other village, he was so happy to
have found the same boat been offered for sale. He quickly paid for it. The
love he had for the boat now increased because it was twice his. The same thing
with us, we were God’s by CREATION and again we are His by REDEMPTION. If not
for anything else, these two are two good reasons why we must love God.
Here is what
that great theologian Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Believers
love Jesus with a deeper affection then they dare to give to any other being.
They would sooner lose father and mother then part with Christ. They hold all
earthly comforts with a loose hand, but they carry Him fast locked in their
bosoms. They voluntarily deny themselves for His sake, but they are not to be
driven to deny Him. It is scant love which the fire of persecution can dry up;
the true believer's love is a deeper stream than this. Men have laboured to
divide the faithful from their Master, but their attempts have been fruitless
in every age. Neither crowns of honour, now frowns of anger, have untied this
more than Gordian knot. This is no every-day attachment which the world's power
may at length dissolve. Neither man nor devil have found a key which opens this
lock. Never has the craft of Satan been more at fault than when he has
exercised it in seeking to rend in sunder this union of two divinely welded
hearts. It is written, and nothing can blot out the sentence, "The upright
love Thee ." The intensity of the love of the upright, however, is not so
much to be judged by what it appears as by what the upright long for. It is our
daily lament that we cannot love enough. Would that our hearts were capable of
holding more, and reaching further. Like Samuel Rutherford, we sigh and cry,
"Oh, for as much love as would go round about the earth, and over
heaven—yea, the heaven of heavens, and ten thousand worlds—that I might let all
out upon fair, fair, only fair Christ." Alas! our longest reach is but a
span of love, and our affection is but as a drop of a bucket compared with His
deserts. Measure our love by our intentions, and it is high indeed; 'tis thus,
we trust, our Lord doth judge of it. Oh, that we could give all the love in all
hearts in one great mass, a gathering together of all loves to Him who is
altogether lovely!

There is no
doubt that God loves us. We love Him because he first loved us. If we indeed
love God let it show not only in our profession but also in our action.
