I got this from a
colleague and a friend, Pastor Otitoju-Teidi. A young boy was going home after
a vigil at a Church, he walked into the midst of African traditionalists who
were performing sacrifices. They were surprised at the boy’s boldness walking
at that odd hour. They commanded the boy to stop where he was, he did. They were
contemplating what to do with him when one of them said. “Let us sacrifice him.
He will be good for sacrifice.” The boy
said “What do you mean?” Then, one of them was enraged and said “are you still
talking here?” The boy said yes because He knows the WORD and asked them if
they know the Word. So they asked him “what is the WORD?”. He started from John
Chapter 1. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word
was God, by Him all thing were made and without Him was nothing made that was
made… ” As the boy continued, they were terrified and concluded that the boy
had an “incantation” greater than their own and they asked him to go. God is
greater than all. He can protect us by any means, let us know what the Bible
says.
This was shared at the
morning devotion which I attended last December. Some members of staff somewhere
were praying for a raise in their payments. One of them went to tell their boss
about the prayer and the boss said “I will prove to them that prayers don’t
work”. This particular boss would ultimately sign the paper to that effect. At
the meeting when the paper was to be signed. He received a call from his wife,
who was in another country. The wife told him several joyful new. He was so
overwhelmed with joy that when he came back to the meeting he asked for the
paper and just signed. Later, he wondered why he signed it. God taught him a
lesson: Prayer works.
This story was shared
by Mr. Uri, an excellent tour guide in Israel. A wealthy man took a poor man
home, clothed him, fed him and made him comfortable as much as he could be
without requiring any form of labour from this poor man. The poor man stayed
with this rich man for a considerable period of time so the rich man built some
trust in him. But one day, the poor man stole an expensive possession of the
rich man (can’t remember the item now, forgive me) and escaped with it. The
Police arrested this poor man and took him back to the rich man but to their
amazement, the rich man said that the item did not belong to him and that he
never knew this poor man. The Police were taken aback because the stolen item
was so expensive and they knew that it belong to this rich man and they were
aware that the poor man had been living with him. So later, the son of the rich
man asked him why he said that, and the man replied that as long as the poor
man loved the stolen item more than him (the rich man). He can go with it. What
has the Lord given us that is more worthwhile to God who has given Himself to
us? Let us reflect.
